This photo from Lhasa, the administrative capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region is colorful, but a very ordinary site in this City in the Sky. Lhasa is at an altitude of 3,490 metres (11,450 ft) and is the birthplace of Tibetan Buddhism.

Kathmandu is one of my favorite places I’ve ever been. The city is like a maze of culture and architecture. To make it even better, there are extremely colorful faces everywhere. Although this guy smiled when I took this photo, he thought this meant we had an agreement where I should pay him and he proceeded to follow me around for a good while asking for money.
This is a very difficult situation for photographers working in the difficult world. More on this ethical debate here.
