An Instagram of me hoping over rocks with a Kessler Crane Pocket Dolly near the Dolomites.
Second in the Digital Diary of Italy series, a set of seven young video makers from all over the world joined us in Friuli Venezia Giulia to do some serious storytelling.
I was one of those seven.
Over the seven day assignment in Italy, we were force fed prosciutto and drowned in wine daily as we went from the Italian Alps to the Mediterranean Shores. We went kite surfing, horse back riding, caving and cruised through vineyards on vespas (or in my case, a sidecar). I would wake up on a small island and go to bed in an ancient castle. This photo series documents my digital diary of Friuli Venezia-Giulia. The photos accompany this video.
The area is truly beautiful with an amazing population. Please help share the place with your networks by sharing this video.

Here I am getting on a boat in Friuli. With me is an f-stop Satori Expedition bag as well as an f-stop Lightroom Roller. The two bags integrate with each other seamlessly with the company’s fantastic ICU system. Learn more about f-stop and their fantastic camera bags

A photo by fellow filmmaker Jan of me conducting an interview with my main subject of the video. I ended up killing one of the camera angles for simplicity’s sake in the final product.

A tourist gets directions from a local in Venice. This was an amazingly common site: foreigner staring blankly into map.
Although the digital diary was filmed all in Friuli Venezia Giulia, after the filming I had a couple spare days to spend in Venice. So my photo diary extended a bit. It was my first time visiting the ancient city and my impression of the place was truly fantastic. I’ve been traveling for many years now, but this place was simply stunning. From the canals to the architecture, it is truly a unique place in the world.
However, it is a truly confusing city to navigate as well.

Although statues in northern Italy can be dangerous, Dutch filmmaker Caspar Diederik did manage to escape with all of his fingers in tact to continue to take pictures.

A very simple rig I used during shooting of the digital diary project. The rig was made up of Redrock Micro, Jag 35, D-Focus and Zacuto parts with a Sachtler Ace Tripod. To film this project I used a Canon 5D Mark III with a range of Canon EOS lenses.

365 DAYS - 365 PHOTOS - Photo 74, taken December 7, 2011, Beijing, China.
Wukesong Camera market. This fine market is where I buy lots of gear in Beijing. The enormous market is filled with stores like this, with most things photographers will ever need. If you need a camera or general gear in Beijing, this is the place to go. For directions on getting there check out photographer Sean Gallagher’s blog on Wukesong Camera Market. Things here will be significantly more expensive than from at BH Photo & Video, however, the price of convenience is one I’m a sucker for.
360 DAYS - 360 PHOTOS is a series of photographs from the archives of jonahkessel.com. Photographs span over eight years and include locations from all around the world. They fall in no particular order, but their own.
