382 DAYS - 365 PHOTOS - Photo 327, taken March 12, 2012, Dubai, The United Arab Emirates.
The world’s tallest structure building, Burj Khalifa, towers above nearby buildings in Dubai. The building reaches a height of 829.84 meters (2,723 ft) and unlike some of the other very large buildings in the world, the Burj doesn’t really have too many tall buildings next to it.
This gives it kind of a surreal look, as its just so much taller than anything near it.
Also, unlike The Patronas Towers, a building who once held he title “tallest building in the world” getting next to this building is not so easy. You can pay $100 USD to go up, but my attempt to stand next to it and look up, was thwarted by security guards who told me only residents can stand next to the building.

382 DAYS - 365 PHOTOS - Photo 325, taken March 9, 2012, Sana’a, Yemen.
Three men sit in wheel barrels on the streets of Sana’a, Yemen. I actually saw a lot of these type of thing in a recent trip to the Middle East. It was refreshing to see the technology has not gone out of fashion or become obscure in the area. And when not in use, they can always double as seats, as showed here.

382 DAYS - 365 PHOTOS - Photo 324, taken August 28, 2010, Kathmandu, Nepal.
From China to Nepal, temples can look pretty different. This temple in the heart of Kathmandu is covered with monkeys and shrines. Kathmandu has to be one of the greatest places on earth to get lost. The old city is an architectural and cultural labyrinth. Surrounded by steep hills, the narrow streets of the city are crammed full of people, temples, sounds, smells, sellers, buyers, trash and your occasional cow or monkey. The place is buzzing with life.
For the nomadically curious, this makes Kathmandu a gold mine.

382 DAYS - 365 PHOTOS - Photo 322, taken April 26, 2005, Queensland, Australia.
Photo 289 dates back seven years to my first digital SLR camera — an originally Canon EOS Digital Rebel. This was the period when I was really learning how to shoot — or perhaps, that I wanted to really shoot.
Learning in Australia was a great place with the abundance of wildlife. This frog is actually on my wall outside my apartment and the photograph is taken at night. What is remarkable is its a 60 second exposure — yet the frog (which is on the side of a wall — not on the ground) is completely still.
Imagine photographing a person with no strobes in close to pitch black, for 60 seconds … your photo would not look like this.
An oldy, but a goody.

382 DAYS - 365 PHOTOS - Photo 323, taken October 27, 2009, Beijing, China.
In South Beijing, the Temple of Heaven is one of my favorite tourist attractions in Beijing.
The Temple of Heaven, literally the Altar of Heaven (simplified Chinese: 天坛; traditional Chinese: 天壇; pinyin: Tiāntán; Manchu: Abkai mukdehun) is a complex of religious buildings situated in the southeastern part of central Beijing. The complex was visited by the Emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties for annual ceremonies of prayer to Heaven for good harvest. It is sometimes regarded as a Taoist temple, although Chinese Heaven worship, especially by the reigning monarch of the day, pre-dates Taoism.

Photo 321 is actually a photo stitch of about 8 photographs taken at a Phish show at the Gorge Amphitheater in Washington State. This is certainly one of the coolest places to see a concert in the world and the fact that its so isolated makes a multiday concert here, a bit of a festival.

Why not jump? Its fun, it makes for cool photographs, and given the right timing — you can have some strange effects, as exemplified by Maysha in this photo during sunset in Dubai.
Don’t believe me? Try it. Hard not to smile at the jump shot.

382 DAYS - 365 PHOTOS - Photo 317, taken March 3, 2012, Socotra, Yemen.
Long ago and far away (from you, most likely) a sultan’s daughter fell ill. To help his daughter, the sultan announced that anyone who could find a cure for his daughter’s illness could have any treasure in the sultan’s reach, which was as far as the eye could see and as wild as the mind could imagine. Doctors from all corners of the earth came to help the princess, but none could find a cure. And the girl became gravely ill.

382 DAYS - 365 PHOTOS - Photo 314, taken March 15, 2012, 30,000 feet in the air, someplace.
People often ask me how I get my gear around. Well, the answer is a combination of Pelican cases and camera backpacks made by f-stop gear. In fact, I like f-stop so much, I give my bags the window seat.
Ok, thats a bit of a joke. Only when the seat next to me happens to be empty. But the bags are fantastic. This is a Kenti, one of the smaller mountain series bags which I absolutely love. The bag sits very close to your back, unlike many other similarly sized photography backpacks. This is great if you are walking around, riding bikes or doing anything where the bag will be puting weight on your back. Its also the smallest bag I’ve seen that can hold as much gear as it can.
Look to blog.jonahkessel.com for some more in depth reviews of this bag soon.

382 DAYS - 365 PHOTOS - Photo 313, taken July 16, 2010, Sanhe-An, Anhui Province, China.
Rain falls on Sanhe-An, a preserved ancient town in Anhui Province. The traditional village, just outside of Hefei is an interesting place to visit but seems to be plagued by rain every time I’m in the area. In fact, I’ve never been to Anhui Province when its not poring rain.
